Public art opportunity at Wabash Station

COLUMBIA, MO (December 14, 2005) --The city of Columbia Office of
Cultural Affairs (OCA) invites Missouri artists to apply for a public
art project at Wabash Station. Annual estimates are that more than
530,000 riders access Wabash Station, the primary transfer point for all
city buses and ParaTransit services, making it an ideal location for
public art.

The project is a component of Columbia's Percent for Art Program,
established in 1997, which requires that one percent of total
construction costs for eligible new and renovation projects be set aside
for site-specific public art.

Wabash Station first opened its doors in 1910 as a train station. Since
1982, the facility has been used by Columbia's Transit Service for
city bus services. In 2006, renovation of the historic station will get
underway. The budget for the Percent for Art project is $12,000.

The Percent for Art project is open to artists residing in the state of
Missouri. Artists should submit qualifications only, not design
proposals. Guidelines for applying are available at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com/Arts/ or by contacting the OCA to receive a
print version of the prospectus. Applications must be postmarked Jan.
17, 2006.

For more information, contact the OCA at 573-874-7512,
oca at GoColumbiaMo.com.
