Donations for Pascagoula, Mississippi

COLUMBIA, MO (December 20, 2005) -- Mayor Darwin Hindman will accept
donations for Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m.
in the 4th floor conference room at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. Simon
Oswald Associates, a local architectural firm, is donating $2,000 and
the "Buck-A-Person for Relief" fund is donating $723.97.

The City Council, at a previous meeting, passed a resolution to adopt
Pascagoula, a city hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. Following Hurricane
Katrina, the U.S. Conference of Mayors/Conference of Black Mayors
initiated a program that allows cities to adopt cities affected by
Hurricane Katrina. The city of Columbia inquired about the adoption
process and was partnered with Pascagoula.

"The "Buck-A-Person for Relief" fund started as a class project
for Professor Debbie Dougherty's organizational communications class
at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Dougherty's students heard
that the city was considering adopting Pascagoula and they decided to
designate Pascagoula to receive the funds.

The donations will be processed through the city of Columbia New
Century Fund, Inc.

Pascagoula suffered damage to at least 90 percent of all buildings from
wind and flooding and has many ongoing needs. Monetary donations can be
made to the New Century Fund. For other donations or questions, please
contact the Public Communications Office at 874-7220.
