Beck to conduct final press conference, present annual activities and
accomplishments

COLUMBIA, MO (December 29, 2005) -- On Friday, Dec. 30, at 9:30 a.m.,
City Manager Raymond A. Beck will conduct his regular press conference
to review next week's City Council agenda, announcements and to
respond to press questions.

Following the press conference, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Beck will
present the city's annual activities and accomplishments, along with
what he sees as challenges ahead for the city.

This will be Beck's last planned press conference prior to his
retirement. His last day as city manager will be Friday, Jan. 6, 2006.
He will remain on the staff to assist the new city manager during a
transition period. Beck's official retirement date is Feb. 1, 2006.

Beck has served as city manager for more than 20 years, beginning in
August 1985. Prior to serving as city manager, he worked in the Public
Works Department, serving as director for 25 years. He also concurrently
served as acting planning director for three years, acting Water and
Light director, civil defense director and acting city manager during
times those positions were vacant.

There will be a retirement reception for Beck on Thursday, Jan. 5, from
4 - 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located on the fourth floor of
City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. A formal recognition program will begin at
4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

There also will be a retirement reception at the Holiday Inn Select on
Friday, Jan. 6, from 5:30 - 9 p.m. Anyone interested in attending the
reception should contact the City Manager's Office at 874-7214 as soon
as possible. There is a fee of $20 per person to cover costs of the
reception.
