Parks & Recreation announces new Adult Financial Assistance Program

COLUMBIA, MO (February 8, 2005) -- The Columbia City Council recently
approved an Adult Financial Assistance Program for low-income citizens
of Columbia. The program defines recreational financial assistance
guidelines for the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department. The
eligibility guidelines for financial assistance for individuals 18 years
and over will be based upon the United States Department of
Agriculture's Free/Reduced Lunch program income guidelines (which
are based upon household size and household income from all sources).
The city of Columbia has allocated $5,000 for this program for its first
year.

If eligible, participants may receive reduced admissions to the
Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) in the form of 20 passes or an annual
pass if merited by use.

In order to qualify, interested participants need to be a resident of
the city of Columbia, complete the application and provide documentation
of all forms of income. Applications are available online
(www.GoColumbiaMo.com) or at the downtown Parks & Recreation office
located at 7th and Broadway.

The program will begin Feb. 8, 2005. For more information, please
