Tickets still available for Diversity Celebration
COLUMBIA, MO (January 6, 2005) -- A limited number of tickets are still
available for the 12th Annual Columbia Values Diversity Celebration,
scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 from 7 - 8:45 a.m. at the Holiday
Inn Select Expo Center.
Registration for the celebration is $12 per person and $10 for children
12 and under. Scholarships are available upon request. Register by
calling the Office of Community Services at 874-7488 (V/TTY).
A breakfast buffet and live music will be followed by a special program
honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the presentation of the
Columbia Values Diversity Award.
This year's program is entitled, "The Promised Land...Harmony in
Diversity" which is an original creation of Mark and Shawna Kelty using
information gathered by local teens participating in the InterACT
Teen-to-Teen Theatre and Parks and Recreation CARE programs.
This theatrical program weaves excerpts from interviews with local
citizens about their own personal journeys to America and their hopes
and dreams for a better life highlighted and contrasted with the
experience of historical figures from our country's past. Dr. King's
perspective on the African-American experience will provide the common
thread that weaves through this program celebrating our national
tapestry. Rather than being a "melting pot," the program will expand
your appreciation for the unique harmonies that we have created from our
rich diversity. Local artists will perform dance, music and drama in a
program that will fill you with a renewed spirit of the strength we all
draw from our diversity.
The celebration is designed to be accessible to all. Please call
874-7488 (V/TTY) for more information or accommodations related to
disability.
