Medical expenses for injured officers are covered by workers'
compensation insurance; donations encouraged for other expenses
COLUMBIA, MO (January 14, 2005) -- The city of Columbia wants to
clarify that medical expenses for the two Columbia Police officers
injured earlier this weak are covered by workers' compensation
insurance.
Officers Molly Bowden and Curtis Brown were both shot earlier this week
while in the line of duty.
Since the shootings, the community has expressed interest in assisting
the two officers and their families. Some of the reports in the media
indicated that donations would be used to assist with medical bills.
Since the officers were in the line of duty at the time of the injuries,
medical expenses are covered by workers' compensation insurance.
Donations are encouraged for other expenses.
The city wishes to thank the many citizens who have expressed interest
in assisting officers Bowden and Brown and their families.
