Mayor proclaims evening of Jan. 24 'Family Night'

COLUMBIA, MO (January 14, 2004) -- Mayor Darwin Hindman has proclaimed
Monday evening, Jan. 24, as "Family Night" in Columbia.

In the proclamation, Mayor Hindman urges citizens to spend the evening
of Jan. 24 together as families in activities that would strengthen and
unify their families.

The proclamation reads as follows:

WHEREAS, the family is the basic unit of our society; and

WHEREAS, our community is only as strong as the families that comprise
it; and

WHEREAS, the family can provide the primary source of happiness for
individuals and is the best place for values to be acquired; and

WHEREAS, successful families are maintained through respect, love,
compassion, forgiveness, work, and wholesome recreational activities;
and 

WHEREAS, there are many competing interests and activities that take us
away from time together as families. 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Darwin Hindman, Mayor of the City of Columbia,
Missouri, do hereby proclaim Monday evening, the 24th of January, 2005,
as

FAMILY NIGHT
in the City of Columbia, and urge all citizens to spend that evening
together as families in activities that would strengthen and unify their
families.
