Boards and commissions applications are available
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday, Aug. 5. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may be found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City Council page. The following are current boards and commissions openings:
*	The Bicycle/Pedestrian Commission has two vacancies with one term to expire July 31, 2008 (pedestrian) and one to expire July 31, 2007 (bicycle). One member must have knowledge of bicycling and/or bicycle safety and/or bikeways and one member must have an interest in pedestrian safety and infrastructure. All members must be registered voters of the city. Monthly meetings are the third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
*	The Building Construction Codes Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire Aug. 1, 2008. One alternate member, to serve in the absence of a regular member, experienced in fire prevention is needed. Monthly meetings are the last Monday at 4:30 p.m.
*	The Community Development Commission has two vacancies with one term (Ward 6) to expire Nov. 1, 2005 and one term (Ward 2) to expire Nov. 1, 2007. Members must be registered voters. Commission members shall not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any agency which applies for funding through the commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the commission.
*	The Disabilities Commission has two vacancies with one term (disability) to expire June 15, 2007,  and one term (knowledge/interest) to expire June 15, 2006. One member must have a significant disability, as defined by the Americans With Disabilities Act, and one must have a particular knowledge or experience in providing services to individuals with disabilities or an interest in the welfare of city residents with disabilities. All must be residents of the city of Columbia. Monthly meetings are the second Thursday at 3 p.m.
*	The Board of Health has four vacancies with terms to expire Aug. 31, 2008. One member must be a physician, one must be a dentist and two must be laypersons. All shall be residents of the city, as well as registered voters. Monthly meetings are called by the board. 
*	The Historic Preservation Commission has two vacancies with terms to expire Nov. 1, 2008. Both shall represent one or more disciplines, such as architecture, design, law, real estate, construction/general contracting or layperson active in historic preservation. Members must have demonstrated an interest in historic preservation. Meetings are the first Tuesday at 7 p.m.
*	The Board of Mechanical Examiners has two vacancies with terms to expire June 17, 2008. One member shall be a HVACR journeyman mechanic and one - shall be a general contractor not in the HVACR business. The board is 
	empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation, air 	conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Meetings are on call.
*	The Board of Plumbing Examiners has one vacancy with the term to expire May 31, 2007. The member must be a layperson and a registered voter. Monthly meetings are 5 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month.
