Summer activities planned for Flat Branch Park

COLUMBIA, MO (June 2, 2005) -- A full slate of entertainment is planned
in beautiful, downtown Flat Branch Park this summer! From music to
movies, the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with
local partners to provide fun for all ages. Flat Branch Park is located
at the corner of 4th and Cherry. 

The Flat Branch Outdoor Cinema Summer Series will offer a unique
movie-watching experience, under the stars. Two movies per month will be
shown at Flat Branch Park this summer on a giant inflatable screen.
Pre-show entertainment will vary with each movie. 

Movie-watchers should bring a blanket or low lawn chair. The cost is $3
per person and children 6 and under are free. The Cinema Series is
sponsored by Flat Branch Pub and Brewing and presented by Columbia Parks
and Recreation, the Columbia Daily Tribune, Convention & Visitors Bureau
and Ragtag Cinema.

The movie schedule is: School of Rock, Saturday, June 11, 8:45 p.m.;
The Incredibles, Thursday, June 23, 9 p.m.; 50 First Dates, Wednesday,
July 13, 8:45 p.m.; E.T., Saturday, July 30, 8:45 p.m.; The SpongeBob
SquarePants Movie, Saturday, Aug. 13, 8:30 p.m.; and Spaceballs,
Wednesday, Aug. 24, 8 p.m.

Columbia Parks and Recreation along with the Convention and Visitors
Bureau will also present Twilight Entertainment during this month's
Thursday night Twilight Festivals. Music at Flat Branch will appeal to
all tastes and ages. The line-up for the first three Twilight Festivals
features: the Bubbas, rock and country, 6-8 p.m. on June 2; Bottom of
the Boot Bluegrass Band, bluegrass, 6-8 p.m. on June 9; and Cave Creek
Blues Band, blues, rock, country, 6-8 p.m. on June 16. 

On June 23, before viewing of The Incredibles, pre-show entertainment
will start at 6:30 p.m. Performances will include the Academy of Fine
Arts Competition Baton Twirling Team, Columbia Academy of Tae Kwan Do,
and Flipz USA Gymnastic Competitive Team.

The last Twilight Festival on June 30 will feature Stream Extravaganza:
A Watershed Event! Festivities will be held that evening from 5 to 8
p.m. at Flat Branch Park. The event is free and will feature river
otters, frogs, stream hikes, face painting and more! Participants will
find out more about the 14 streams that run through Columbia plus they
will be able to watch actual footage of river otters, cast a fishing
line, pick up a crawdad, see how a downtown stream has been revitalized
or listen to nature songs. Watershed-friendly lawn care demonstrations
and rainwater gardens will be highlighted.
