City volunteers will be recognized on May 3
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia will recognize the efforts
of the hundreds of volunteers who have contributed to the city at a
reception on Tuesday, May 3, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Twin Lakes
Recreation Area shelter.
	Mayor Darwin Hindman is scheduled to share greetings with
volunteers and will recognize the city's Volunteers of the Month for
2004. The event will be emceed by David Lile from KFRU AM 1400.  
	Volunteers assist the city in a variety of ways, from helping
with festivals, patrolling our streets and trails, teaching others about
recycling, and beautifying our community through Adopt programs. 
	During the city's 2004 fiscal year that ended Sept. 30,
volunteers contributed 41,251 hours toward city programs and projects.
The financial benefit of city of Columbia volunteer hours is estimated
at $723,955 based on a national value of $17.55 per hour.
