Glascock appointed acting director of Public Works Department

COLUMBIA, MO (May 12, 2005) -- With the retirement of Lowell Patterson,
effective May 11, City Manager Raymond A. Beck has appointed John
Glascock as acting director of the Public Works Department until the
permanent position has been filled. 

Glascock is currently serving as the department's chief engineer. He
has been employed by the city of Columbia since March 2003. He
previously served in various engineering/administrative positions,
including construction, maintenance and fleet operations, with the
Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) from 1983 until 2003.

The Public Works Department has a substantial workload and support will
be provided by the City Manager's Office, as needed.

The preferred closing date for the director of Public Works position
was May 3. Applications are currently being reviewed. A screening
committee, consisting of citizens and staff, will be used to assist Beck
in screening the applications and interviewing the most qualified
candidates.
