FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 11, 2005

CONTACT: Patricia Bollman
Utility Accounts/Billing Supervisor
(573) 874-7458

Utility customers with delinquent accounts will now receive a reminder
call before disconnection

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Beginning Monday, city of Columbia utility
customers with valid telephone numbers on file will receive a courtesy
call prior to disconnection. The automated phone message informs
customers of the amount of the delinquent payment and when it must be
paid before disconnection. During the call the customer will have an
option to stay on the line and pay the bill by phone. Bills may also be
paid online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com using the city's online utility
billing system.
Customers will continue to receive a letter when a bill has not
been paid. The phone message is an additional reminder. To receive this
call, however, customers must be sure Utility Customer Service has their
most current phone numbers on record.
"We're doing this as an extra courtesy," said Utility
Accounts/Billing Supervisor Patricia Bollman. "But the system will
only work as well as our database is up-to-date so customers need to let
us know if they change phone numbers."
For more information, contact Utility Customer Service at (573)
874-7380.
