Stage is set for 28th Annual Heritage Festival & Craft Show

COLUMBIA, MO (September 1, 2005) -- Listen, learn and see history as it
comes alive at the Heritage Festival! The schedule of events has been
set for the 28th Annual Heritage Festival and Craft Show, which is
coordinated by the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department. The two-day
event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 17-18 at historic Nifong
Park. Visitors are encouraged to either park on-site or park at nearby
Ice Chalet and take a shuttle to the park. 

Features of the Heritage Festival will include a replica Lewis and
Clark camp, an 1859 town with more than 30 shopkeepers' tents,
American Indian drumming and dancing, and artisans and tradesmen dressed
in 19th century attire demonstrating their trades and selling their
wares. 

A wide range of entertainment will be featured on three stages,
including music, dancing and storytelling. Here is the line-up:

The Heritage Festival will offer more than just entertainment. Visitors
can pick up some early holiday gifts in the large contemporary, handmade
craft area. Saturday evening ghost stories from 8-9:30 p.m. will offer
thrills. Children will enjoy numerous activities in the Fun for
Young'uns Area and hayrides are fun for the entire family. 

In addition, the historic Maplewood Home will be open for tours from
12- 4 p.m. Sept. 17 and from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 18. The Walter's Boone
County Historical Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 17
and from 12-5 p.m. Sept. 18. 

The Heritage Festival is coordinated and sponsored by Columbia Parks
and Recreation and co-sponsored by ABC-17, Boone County Historical
Society, Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau Tourism Development Fund,
Columbia Daily Tribune, Courtyard by Marriott, Metro Rotary Club &
Missouri River Community Network.
