Festival features child's artwork on promotional materials

COLUMBIA, MO (September 13, 2005) -- The fourteenth annual Columbia
Festival of the Arts will bring performing, visual and literary artists
to downtown Columbia on Sept. 24-25.

Festival 2005 promotional items -- T-shirts, posters, flyers and
buttons -- will highlight the artwork of Columbia Public Schools student
Makenzie Manson, now a first grader at Rock Bridge Elementary School.
Makenzie is the daughter of Melinda and Leo Manson.

Makenzie created the image last year while a student of Kathy Dwyer.
The artwork, a collage, was the result of a non-objective classroom
project about geometric and organic shapes and primary colors. Makinzie
was 5 years old when she created her paper collage.

Makenzie's work was selected by the Office of Cultural Affairs from
the more than 80 submissions displayed in the 2004 Columbia Festival of
the Arts Youth Art Exhibit. The Columbia Public Schools students artwork
is located in the lobby of the Boone County Government Center during the
Festival weekend and throughout the month of October. The artwork to be
featured in 2006 promotional materials will be selected from this
year's exhibit.

The Festival is free and open to the public. It will be held at the
Boone County Courthouse Square and surrounding streets in downtown
Columbia on Sept. 24-25. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both
days.

For more information, including a map and stage schedules, consult the
special Festival insert in the Columbia Daily Tribune's Sept. 22 issue
or contact the Office of Cultural Affairs at (573) 874-6386, e-mail
Festival at GoColumbiaMo.com or log on to www.GoColumbiaMo.com (GoWord:
GoArtsFestival).
