Boards and commissions applications are available 
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting
applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received
by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday,
Oct. 7. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may be
found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City
Council page. The following are current boards and commissions
openings:
*	The Bicycle/Pedestrian Commission has one vacancy with the term
to expire July 31, 2008. The member must have an interest in pedestrian
safety and infrastructure and must be a registered city voter. Monthly
meetings are the third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
*	The Board of Adjustment has one vacancy for an alternate with
the term to expire Nov. 1, 2010. Alternates are asked to serve in the
absence of regular members. Members are responsible for hearing and
deciding appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order,
requirement, decision or determination made by an administrative
official in the enforcement of zoning, planning and subdividing
ordinances. The member must be a city resident. Monthly meetings are the
second Tuesday at 7 p.m. 
*	The Building Construction Codes Commission has two vacancies for
alternates with one term (fire prevention) to expire Aug. 1, 2008 and
one term (landlord) to expire Aug. 1, 2007. Alternate members serve in
the absence of regular members. Monthly meetings are the last Monday at
4:30 p.m.
*	The Community Development Commission has three vacancies with
terms to expire Nov. 1, 2008. Members are needed from Ward 1, Ward 5 and
Ward 6 and must be registered voters. Commission members shall not serve
on the board of directors or be employed by any agency which applies for
funding through the commission or which receives funding upon
recommendation of the commission. Meetings are on call.
*	The Internet Citizens Advisory Group has two vacancies with
terms to expire Oct. 15, 2008. Members shall make recommendations to the
staff and Council on resource priority for the city's effective
utilization of the Internet, in addition to serving as a focus group to
assess the user-friendliness and effectiveness of the city's Internet
activities. Meetings are the third Wednesday every other month at 5
p.m.
*	The Mayor's Committee on Physical Fitness has five vacancies
to be appointed by the mayor. The committee shall educate the public
about the importance of regular physical fitness activity and promote,
initiate and encourage local physical fitness and sports programs in the
community. Monthly meetings are the second Monday at 12:30 p.m. 
*	The Board of Plumbing Examiners has one vacancy with the term to
expire May 31, 2007. The member must be a layperson and a registered
voter. Monthly meetings are 5 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month.
*	The Substance Abuse Advisory Commission has three vacancies with
terms to expire Oct. 31, 2008. One member must represent the health
profession, one must be a student under age 25 and one shall have
demonstrated interest in and concern for substance and alcohol abuse
problems in the community. Monthly meetings are the second Wednesday at
noon.
