Missouri utility crews help restore power in Louisiana

COLUMBIA, MO (9/26/2005) - Nine Columbia Water and Light electric line
workers and four trucks were sent to Lafayette, Louisiana on Friday,
September 23, 2005 to help restore power to the hurricane Rita
devastated communities. The Columbia crew was joined by Missouri
lineworkers from Independence, Fulton, Marshall, Poplar Bluff, Trenton,
Rolla, Macon and Hannibal. The assistance was requested through the
American Public Power Association and was organized by the Missouri
Public Utility Alliance. Some of the municipal utility electric crews
and equipment will also be stationed in Abbeville and Alexandria,
Louisiana.

According to Mike Conyers, Electrical Training Director for the
Missouri Public Utility Alliance, "It will take a few days to repair
the electric system in a community and our guys are ready to move to
another area if needed. We want to be there to help in anyway possible
to these people who have been through so much. Getting electricity
restored is crucial first step in the rebuilding effort." Mutual aid
agreements through municipally owned utilities help restore power as
quickly as possible after a devastating event.

A list of participating utilities, staff and equipment that was sent to
Louisiana is available through Columbia Water and Light or the Missouri
Public Utility Alliance. A news release will be sent out when the crews
are heading back to Columbia.
