Visual Artists Receive Awards at Festival
COLUMBIA, MO (9/26/2005) - Artists Nora Othic and Klaus Kuntscher were
selected to receive awards at the 14th annual Columbia Festival of the
Arts, held this past weekend, September 24 -25.
Best of Show was awarded to Othic, from Brookfield, Mo., for her
pastels and watercolors. The Merit Award, sponsored by the city's
Commission on Cultural Affairs, went to Kuntscher, a watercolorist from
Shawnee, Kan.
The two were singled out from a field of fifty local and regional
artists who exhibited and sold their work at the Festival Saturday and
Sunday. A variety of media was represented including jewelry, wood,
watercolor, photography, clay, pastels, ceramics, sculpture, mixed
media, glass, printmaking, oil, acrylics, caricature, metal and fiber.
Each artist submitted an application to exhibit at the Festival and was
chosen through a juried process.
The award winners were determined by the Visual Art Co-Chairs of the
Festival Steering Committee, Rhonda Hafner and Jacqueline Craig, and by
Nancy Burdick and Jo Shaw, representatives of the city's Commission on
Cultural Affairs.
The Columbia Festival of the Arts is a program of the City of Columbia
Office of Cultural Affairs. Financial assistance has been provided by
Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Boone County National Bank, The Callaway
Bank, CenturyTel, Columbia Daily Tribune, Commerce Bank, Columbia
Convention & Visitors Bureau, Dave Griggs' Flooring America, Days Inn
and Travelodge, Deck the Walls, First National Bank, KBIA 91.3, KOMU TV8
& the WB5, McDonald's, Mid-America Arts Alliance, Missouri Arts
Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and Regency Hotel
Downtown.
