Inaugural First Ward Study Circle Series

(COLUMBIA, MO) - First Ward residents, leaders, business owners
and others are invited to participant in honest, respectful, facilitated
small-group dialogue where everyone has an equal voice to share from
personal experience. A study circle progresses from personal experience,
to a broader framework, to ideas for change and action.
In January, the Columbia Human Rights Commission held "First
Ward Dialogue - Impulse for Action" to begin to address race and
diversity in the First Ward. It was attended by 30 First Ward residents
and concerned citizens, including First Ward Ambassadors leaders, First
Ward Councilwoman Almeta Crayton, and Mayor Darwin Hindman. In response,
the Commission is moving forward with an inaugural First Ward Study
Circles Series.
The First Ward Study Circle Kick-Off is Tuesday, April 18, 6
p.m. - 8 p.m., at 1209 E. Walnut (Boone County Family Resources).
The First Ward Study Circle Series will begin on Tuesday, April
25. Participants must register in advance and be available to attend all
sessions of the series: April 25, May 2, May 9, and May 16, 6 p.m. - 8
p.m. There is no cost. Space will be limited.
