PedNet requests bicycles for annual CYCLE-RECYCLE event
(COLUMBIA, MO) - As part of the Mayor's Challenge: Bike, Walk
& Wheel Week, the PedNet Coalition is partnering with the Columbia/Boone
County Health Department to organize the 5th Annual CYCLE-RECYCLE. This
event will be held at the Health Department, 1005 West Worley on Sunday,
May 7, beginning at 1 p.m.
Currently, the PedNet Coalition is looking for donations of
"gently" used bicycles. If you have a spare bike in your garage
or basement, please consider donating it to PedNet so they can fix it up
and give it away to a person in need. Donated bikes will be repaired
with help from Cyclextreme, Klunk Bicycle and Repair, Tryathletics and
Walt's Bike Shop.
Since 2002, more than 500 second-hand bikes have been given to
members of the Columbia community. Many of these bikes are now being
used to get to work, to school, to go shopping, to go to the doctor or
to visit friends.
Anyone wishing to donate a second-hand bike to CYCLE-RECYCLE
should email pednet at pednet.org or call Ian Thomas at (573) 445-2928.
Bike donors will receive a certificate for tax purposes.
