City names new purchasing agent

COLUMBIA, MO (August 2, 2006) -- City Finance Department Director Lori
Fleming today announced the appointment of Marilyn Starke as purchasing
agent for the city of Columbia, effective Aug. 21. Starke will be paid a
salary of $58,000 in addition to authorized employee benefits and a $225
monthly auto allowance.

A certified professional public buyer, Starke is leaving a position as
senior procurement officer for the city of Lee’s Summit. She has
previous purchasing experience with the state of Missouri and held the
elected position of Pettis County public administrator from 1997 to
2004.

“All candidates for this position were reviewed by a selection
committee, and Marilyn was the unanimous choice,” Fleming said. “She
will be a great asset who can hit the ground running and who will
contribute to our efforts to improve coordination in city
government.”

Starke replaces Tony St. Romaine, who moved from the purchasing
position to assistant city manager earlier this year.
