Columbia Transit adds new benches and shelters
(COLUMBIA, MO) - This summer, bus passengers have more places to
rest while they wait for their rides. Beginning in May, Columbia Transit
installed eight new benches and seven new bus shelters at stops
throughout Columbia. Two more benches were moved when shelters were
built at those locations.
The bus system has placed benches at stops near the Courtyard
Apartments on Stadium, the Kitty Hawk Apartments at Parker and Holly, in
front of the McDonalds on Nifong and on Parkade Avenue across from the
Salvation Army Thrift Store. Three city parks received new benches at
nearby stops: Cosmo Park, located just west of the main entrance;
Stephens Lake Park, located just west of the Broadway bridge; and
Douglas Park. Stops near the University Physicians Clinics on Green
Meadows Road and on Fairview now have benches. The tenth bench is at a
stop just west of Paris Road on Brown Station Road.
The new shelters are located at Eastgate, on Business Loop 70
near Mosers Grocery Store, at the ARC, at the corner of Oakland
Gravel Road and Vandiver, and by Gentry Middle School. Passengers headed
to the Social Security office on Grey Oak will find a shelter at the
stop on the Green Meadows Road Extension. The final shelter will be
installed near Holiday House Apartments on Stadium. The new additions
bring the total number of benches in the system to 36 and the number of
shelters to 22.
