Operation Red Wreath - update on holiday fires
COLUMBIA, MO (January 3, 2006) -- During this past holiday season, from
Dec. 1, 2005 through Jan. 2, 2006, the Columbia Fire Department reports
that one fire was caused by holiday decorations or activities.
On Dec. 16, 2005, a fire was reported at 1304 Strathmore and the cause
was traced to a candle placed too close to a live Christmas tree. Damage
was estimated at $10,000 and no one was injured in the fire.
Columbia firefighters challenge you to practice fire safety throughout
the year. Make sure your smoke alarms are working by testing them once a
month and by replacing smoke alarm batteries at least once a year.
The members of the Columbia Fire Department wish everyone a safe and
happy year and express our thanks to everyone for practicing fire safety
throughout the past holiday season.
