Two receptions to honor Beck

COLUMBIA, MO (January 4, 2006) -- Two receptions are planned to honor
City Manager Raymond A. Beck, whose last day as city manager is Friday,
Jan. 6.

The first reception will be Thursday, Jan. 5 from 4 - 6 p.m. in the
City Council Chambers, located on the fourth floor of City Hall, 701 E.
Broadway. A formal recognition program will begin at 4:30 p.m. The
public is invited to attend.

There also will be a retirement reception at the Holiday Inn Select on
Friday, Jan. 6, from 5:30 - 9 p.m. Seating is still available by paying
at the door. There is a fee of $20 per person to cover costs of the
reception. For more information, contact the City Manager's Office at
874-7214 as soon as possible.

Beck has served as city manager for more than 20 years, beginning in
August 1985. Prior to serving as city manager, he worked in the Public
Works Department, serving as director for 25 years. He also concurrently
served as acting planning director for three years, acting water and
light director, civil defense director and acting city manager during
times those positions were vacant.

His last day as city manager will be Friday, Jan. 6. He will remain on
the staff to assist the new city manager during a transition period.
Beck's official retirement date is Feb. 1, 2006, his forty-sixth
anniversary as a city employee.
