FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor appoints citizens' committee for electric bond issue

COLUMBIA, MO (June 19, 2006) -- Mayor Darwin Hindman announced the
appointment of a citizens committee to inform voters about an electric
revenue bond issue that will be on the Aug. 8 ballot. The committee will
hold its initial meeting on Tuesday, June 20, 4:30 p.m., at the
Activities and Recreation Center, 1701 W. Ash Street.

Sabrina McDonnell and Dennis Smith will serve as committee co-chairs,
and Steve Erdel will serve as treasurer. Other committee members
include: Linda Arnold, Tom Baumgardner, Rex Campbell, Susan Clark, John
Conway, Dave Duffy, Ernie Gaeth, James Gray, Greg Macias, Melody Parry,
Al Plummer, Tim Reed, Bob Roper, Vicki Russell, David Shorr, Steve
Smith, John Strotbeck, Jeffrey Williams, Dave Wollersheim and Julie
Youmans.

The committee's goal is to inform voters about improvements needed to
make the city's electric system more reliable, meet federal
requirements and accommodate new customer growth.

"I support this bond issue because I believe it will benefit all
Columbia citizens and small and large employers," Hindman said. "A
reliable electric system will sustain our high quality of life now and
for generations to come."

Hindman added that the Columbia utility has an unavoidable duty to
serve its customers. "Passing the bond issue assures that the city
meets its obligation to provide safe, reliable service. We will be a
stronger community with these improvements," Hindman said.
