(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia junior high students will spend this
Saturday morning studying renewable energy with hands-on projects. As a
partner in the Saturday Science program, Columbia Water and Light staff
create projects to apply science to utility-related work. During this
year's program, the students will build small solar panels and measure
the energy output of wind, sun and wood by evaluating how effectively
these energy sources heat water.
The Columbia Public School's Saturday Science program tries to
capture a student's interest in science by partnering with local
businesses to demonstrate applications of science in the everyday world.
Students apply for the program through their junior high school.
Participants spend several Saturdays traveling to different locations
learning how science is used in various occupations.
