1st Annual Chili Cook-Off, A Benefit for the George Peak Memorial Burn
Center proceeds to be presented March 7 at 1 p.m.

COLUMBIA, MO (March 6, 2006) -- The University Club, the Columbia Fire
Department, and the Columbia Professional Fire Fighters Association
teamed up for the 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off. The event occurred on
Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the University
Club in the Reynolds Alumni Center. 

All eight Columbia fire stations presented their own version of "Fire
House Chili" and were judged for overall best chili. Firefighters from
Station 1 were announced as the winners and received a traveling trophy.
The University Club will donate $1000, the proceeds from the event, to
the George Peak Memorial Burn Center at the University Hospitals and
Clinics to be used to purchase needed equipment for the treatment of
burn injuries. 

The presentation of the check will be on Tuesday, March 7, at 1 p.m. at
the George David Peak Memorial Burn Center in the critical care tower at
University Hospitals. Fire Chief William Markgraf, Columbia Professional
Fire Fighters President Tim Taylor, Jennifer Harden, representing the
sponsoring agency, Reynolds Alumni Center, will present the check and
representatives from the burn center will accept the donation.
