ARC celebrates millionth visitor

COLUMBIA, MO (May 4, 2006) -- The Activity and Recreation Center (ARC)
recently welcomed its millionth paid visitor. The ARC has been open less
than 3½ years and during this time has offered healthy opportunities for
individuals of all ages and from all walks of life. This milestone will
be recognized during an awards ceremony at the Mayor's Council on
Physical Fitness and Health - Fitness Forum. The Forum will offer
fitness information from 6 - 7:30 p.m. and the award winners will be
announced beginning at 7:30 p.m. on May 9 at the ARC. 

Columbia resident Helen Crawford became the ARC's millionth visitor
on March 24 when she checked into the facility at 5:40 p.m. Ms. Crawford
will be honored with an award of recognition from Mayor Darwin Hindman.
Ms. Crawford joined the ARC in February 2003 and has visited the ARC
nearly 200 times since she joined.

In appreciation for the other 999,999 visitors before Ms. Crawford's
visit, the ARC will host a customer appreciation event. Prizes will be
awarded throughout the day on May 9 to visitors to the facility. The
public is welcome to view the facility on this day.

Located at 1701 W. Ash, the ARC is operated by Columbia Parks and
Recreation. The 73,000-square-foot facility opened in December 2002. Its
construction was made possible by the passage of a quarter-cent sales
tax by Columbia voters in November 1999. Since the opening, the
operational expenses of the ARC have been matched by its operational
revenue.

The Columbia Parks & Recreation Department extends its appreciation to
all of the individuals who worked to make this effort possible and to
those visitors who have continued to make the ARC successful.
