Columbia pools set to open for the summer
COLUMBIA, MO (May 23, 2006) -- Summer is right around the corner and so
is the opening of Columbia's public outdoor aquatic facilities. The
Oakland Family Aquatic Center will open for Memorial Day weekend and
then will open on June 1. The rest of the facilities will open June 3.
Fees for the summer are $2 for youth between 2 and 15 years of age,
$3.25 for adults 16 and older, and free for infants. Coupon books for
the 2006 season are available at a cost of $30 for youth and $49 for
adults. The books cover 20 visits.
Outdoor aquatic season passes are new this year and available for
purchase at the ARC. Costs are $220 for a family season pass, $115 for
an adult season pass and $70 for a youth season pass.
Following are pool schedules and amenities for the 2006 summer. Pool
hours are subject to change:
Oakland Family Aquatic Center - Oakland will be open from 12 to 6 p.m.
May 27, 28 and 29. Starting June 1, the facility will resume normal
summer hours through Aug. 18: 12 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10
a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The center will
be open from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 19, 20, 26 and 27, and Sept. 2-4.
Located at 1900 Blue Ridge Road, Oakland offers a children's
interactive play area with sprinklers and a water slide. There is also a
concession area and a large deck area with shade umbrellas.
Lake of the Woods - The outdoor pool at Lake of the Woods will open
June 3 through Aug. 13 with the following hours: 12 to 6 p.m. on Mondays
and Wednesdays, and 12 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays,
Saturdays and Sundays. The Lake of Woods facility is set on the golf
course at 6700 St. Charles Road. Its features include a water slide,
shade umbrellas and concession stand.
Douglass Family Aquatic Center - The pool will open June 3 through Aug.
13 with the following hours: 1 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays,
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and from 3 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. The facility is located at 400 N. Providence Road and
features a double loop water slide, wading pool with raindrop and a
shaded shelter.
Pirates' Landing - Located at Twin Lakes Recreation Area, the
facility includes Little Mates Cove and the swimming lake. Little Mates
will be open starting June 3 through July 31 with the following hours:
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on
Saturdays and from 12 to 6 p.m. on Sundays. From Aug. 1-13, Little Mates
will change its weekday hours to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The kiddie water park
features slides, sprinklers, water cannons and waterfalls.
The 6.5-acre lake will be open June 3 through July 31 from 12 to 8 p.m.
Mondays through Fridays and 12 to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. From
Aug. 1-13, the lake will be open 12 to 7 p.m. weekdays and 12-6 p.m. on
weekends. The lake offers a sand beach, a large shallow area and dock
with slides and diving boards.
