New flu shot availability for Boone County residents
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Please see the following for two important
updates regarding flu shot availability from the Columbia/Boone County
Health Department.
Walk-in flu shots for residents at high risk now available!
Residents who meet at least one of the following high-risk
criteria are now eligible to receive a flu shot on a walk-in basis at
the Health Department during regular clinic hours, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m. High-risk groups include:
* Age 50 or older
* Chronic health condition (heart, lung or kidney disease,
diabetes, asthma, cancer, blood disorders, etc.)
* Weakened immune system (HIV/AIDS, chemotherapy, organ
transplant, long-term steroids, etc.)
* Muscle or nerve disorders (i.e. seizure disorders or
severe cerebral palsy) that can lead to breathing or
swallowing problems
* Child or adolescent <18 years of age on long-term
aspirin therapy
* Women who will be pregnant during influenza season
* Children <4 years of age
FluMist® (intranasal vaccine) is also available on a walk-in basis to
individuals between the ages of 5-49 with no chronic health conditions.
Flu Shot Clinic for General Public on Nov. 20
The Health Department will hold a flu shot clinic for all residents of
Boone County on Monday, Nov. 20, from 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the
Sanford-Kimpton Building.
Cost for flu shots and FluMist® is $20. The Health Department
accepts cash, check, Medicaid and Medicare.
The Health Department is located at 1005 W. Worley St. For more
information, call the flu hotline at 874-7355 and select option 9 or go
