Start of Construction of the Southampton Road Project

COLUMBIA, MO (November 24, 2006) -- The Public Works Department announced the beginning of construction of the Southampton Drive Project. Construction is slated to begin Monday, November 27, 2006.

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., of Columbia was the successful bidder on the project in the amount of $1,614,558.80. This project will consist of the construction of a 44-foot wide Portland cement concrete pavement, 2,690 feet of storm drainage piping ranging in size from 15-inch to 72-inch diameter, an 8-foot wide pedway, a round-a-bout and other incidental work. The project limits are from Providence Road at the west end extending east and then north to the existing connection with Nifong Connector to Grindstone Parkway. No road closures are expected, however, work at the intersection of Providence Road will require lane restrictions to facilitate the improvement of a pedestrian crossing at that intersection.

It is anticipated that construction will be completed by the summer of 2007. Care should be exercised in the construction area and alternate routes should be used.
