Bus Transportation Available for BIG Meetings
COLUMBIA, MO (November 24, 2006) 

WHAT: Bus transportation provided to BIG (Big Idea Gathering) vision meetings.  The Vision Committee and the City of Columbia have announced that two local transportation providers are donating transportation services to transport citizens to the BIG meetings.  First Student, Inc., and Services for Independent Living are offering buses to support the BIG meetings. First Student, Inc., will be picking up on two routes both nights.  Services For Independent Living will be operating two paratransit buses that can accommodate five wheelchairs and a paratransit mini-van that can accommodate two wheelchairs or four ambulatory persons.

WHEN/WHERE: The BIG meetings are scheduled as follows, and bus schedules are attached.

BACKGROUND: Including transportation options can make attendance possible for residents who might not otherwise be able to participate in the BIG meetings.  One goal of the Vision Committee is to make the process accessible to as many people as possible, including the disabled community, citizens of all racial, ethnic groups and all social and economic circumstances.  Children are welcome when attending with their parents.

BIG meetings are open to everyone who lives, works, studies or shops in Columbia.  Citizens can attend the meeting that is most convenient for them.  The format consists of a large group assembly with hundreds of fellow citizens, followed by small group break-out sessions with trained discussion leaders and in an atmosphere that is safe, productive and fun.
