Energy Conservation Workshop and Fair

DATE: Oct. 23, 2006
TIME:  Workshop, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Conservation Fair, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
LOCATION: The Activity and Recreation Center - corner of Clinkscales and Ash
SPONSORS: AARP, Columbia Water and Light and Central Missouri Community Action
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - A free weatherization workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) located at the corner of Ash and Clinkscales. The workshop will cover how to weatherize your home, conserve water and consumer protection tips for hiring contractors.  
	The first 100 participants who register for the event will also receive an extensive energy and water conservation kit. For those needing assistance installing the items from the kit, students from the University of Missouri will be available to help. The kit will include a compact fluorescent light bulb, electric outlet and switch insulation gaskets, weather stripping, pipe wrap, a hot water heater jacket, rope caulk, a low-flow shower head, foam spray insulation, a kitchen sink aerator and a hot water tank thermometer.
	Also on Oct. 23, there will be an Energy Conservation Fair from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the ARC with display booths and hands-on demonstrations of energy efficiency improvement projects. Both events are free and open to the public. The workshop and fair is a cooperative effort of Columbia Water and Light, the American Association of Retired People (AARP) and Central Missouri Community Action.
