Stream Extravaganza at Flat Branch Park

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Don’t miss the Stream Extravaganza, a
watershed event, to be held at Flat Branch Park, 4th and Broadway, on
Thursday, Sept. 21.
The Stream Extravaganza will feature “The Fishin’
Magicians,” wildlife identification, birds, frogs, a giant crawdad,
stream hikes, fishing poles, stream teams and more! Kids can cast a
fishing line or pick up crawdads from the crawdad pool and find out what
crawdads eat. We’ll also identify “Tattletale Bugs” that indicate
the health of a stream and watch how streams change at the mini-stream
table. Watershed-friendly lawn care demonstrations and rainwater gardens
will be highlighted. Learn more about the 28 streams that run through
Boone County and how you contribute to urban water quality. Participants
will have an opportunity to sign up for stream teams and there will be
lots of prizes and fun for everyone!
Flat Branch Park is an example of urban renewal and stream
rehabilitation. See how this former abandoned railway site in the
central city was transformed to a beautiful park complete with a
meandering stream, during the “Finding Flat Branch” presentation.
Festivities will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. within walking
distance from the Twilight Festival in the District which is being held
the same evening. This is a free, family event sponsored by Bass Pro,
city of Columbia Public Works and Boone County Public Works.
For more information, please contact Mona Menezes, city of
Columbia Stormwater Outreach Program, at (573) 817-6447 or e-mail
