Renovations begin at Douglass Pool

COLUMBIA, MO (September 15, 2006) -- The renovation of the city of
Columbia’s Douglass Family Aquatic Center began Wednesday (Sept. 13).
The pool renovation is on the list of parks projects that will be funded
by an extension of the eighth-cent parks sales tax approved by voters
last November.

The work at Douglass includes repair of the pool shell, gutter system,
plumbing and mechanical systems. A modular climbing wall designed
specifically for pools will also be installed, making Douglass the first
city pool to have such a feature. The city has contracted with Westport
Pools to complete the work. The project is scheduled to be completed in
time for the pool to open for the 2007 swimming season.

Total cost of the repairs is $299,000. The park sales tax will fund
$200,000 of that cost and the remaining $99,000 will be provided by a
Community Development Block Grant.

For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 874-7460.
