City Public Works Department names new operations manager
COLUMBIA, MO (September 25, 2006) -- City Public Works Director John
Glascock today announced the promotion of Mary Ellen Lea to the position
of operations manager, effective today. Lea will be paid an annual
salary of $75,752 and will oversee several Public Works functions,
including solid waste, sanitary sewer, street maintenance, stormwater
and fleet operations.
With 14 years of public works experience, Lea has managed solid waste
collections, household hazardous waste collections and recycling
operations for the city of Columbia and the city of Cape Girardeaus
Public Works Department. She also has participated in environmental
design and plan reviews and in educational campaigns for needed public
works improvements.
All candidates for this position were reviewed by a selection
committee as well as meeting with a group of supervisors, represented
and non-represented employees," Glascock said. She already is a great
asset and will continue to serve citizens with integrity and
creativity.
Lea earned a masters degree in environmental resources planning from
Southwest Missouri State University. She is involved in the professional
organizations of the American Public Works Association (APWA) and the
Missouri Waste Control Coalition (MWCC).
Lea replaces Dennie L. Pendergrass who is retiring after 30 years with
city government.
