Visual artists receive awards at Festival

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Artists Mark Knewtson and Jerry H. Brown were
selected to receive awards at the 15th annual Columbia Festival of the
Arts held this past weekend, Sept. 23 -24.
Best of Show was awarded to Knewtson, a ceramicist and sculptor
from Urbana, Mo. The Merit Award, sponsored by the city’s Commission
on Cultural Affairs, went to Brown, of Lee’s Summit, for his drawings
and pastels.
The two were singled out from a field of 50 local and regional
artists who exhibited and sold their work at the Festival Saturday and
Sunday. A variety of media was represented including jewelry, wood,
watercolor, photography, clay, pastels, ceramics, sculpture, mixed
media, glass, printmaking, oil, acrylics, metal and fiber. Each artist
submitted an application to exhibit at the Festival and was chosen
through a juried process.
The Best of Show winner was selected by juror Terry Marin, an
artist from Jefferson City and professor of art at William Woods
University in Fulton. Ken Greene and Jo Donati Shaw, representatives of
the city’s Commission on Cultural Affairs, selected the Merit Award
winner.
