A health reminder before heading back to school

COLUMBIA, MO (August 6, 2007) - As students and parents are loading up
on school supplies, registering for classes and counting the remaining
days left, it is important to remember that before the first day of
school, students need to be up-to-date on their immunizations. 

“We want to encourage students to get their vaccinations now instead
of waiting until school starts. Depending on the school’s policy, some
students may not get their class schedule until their school has proof
of vaccination,” advises Chris Coffman, public health nursing
supervisor at the Columbia/Boone County Health Department.

Immunizations are available for both school age children and those
entering college at the
Columbia-Boone County Health Department located at 1005 West Worley,
Monday- Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

To make it convenient for parents, the Health Department has been
providing immunizations at different schools.

Hallsville: Aug. 7, 8:30 - 11
Centralia: Aug. 9, 8 -1
Rockbridge: Aug. 10, 9 -1
Hickman: Aug. 10, 9 -1
West Jr.: Aug. 14, 5 - 8 
Jeff Jr.: Aug. 15, 7:30 - 11 or 4 - 7
Oakland: Aug. 15, 5 -7

It is also important for parents to contact their child’s physician
or local health department for an updated vaccination record for each
child. For costs and recommendations on immunizations, please visit the
