New shelter under construction at Cosmo Park

COLUMBIA, MO (August 17, 2007) - Columbia Parks and Recreation is
building a new shelter with a familiar name at Cosmo Park. 

The reconstruction of Harris Shelter is taking place in the southwest
corner of the park. Harris Shelter had originally been located near the
Antimi Sports Complex. However, the shelter was removed to make room for
the expansion of the athletic fields. Instead of rebuilding the shelter
in that area, it was decided to relocate Harris to a less congested area
of Cosmo. 

The new shelter will be 25-foot’ by 45-foot and will feature an
80-car parking lot. A vegetative screen will be constructed along the
park boundary to enhance appearance and serve as a buffer for highway
noise. 

The cost of the shelter and parking lot is $164,041 in parks sales tax
funding.
