Boards and commissions applications are available 
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting
applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received
by the clerk’s office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday,
Sept. 7. Applications are available at the clerk’s office or may be
found on the city’s Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City
Council page. The following are current boards and commissions
openings:
●	The Building Construction Codes Commission has four vacancies
for alternate members (to serve in the absence of the regular member)
for each of the following categories: professional engineer with
experience in electrical/mechanical (term to expire Aug. 1, 2010);
residential rental property owner (term to expire Aug. 1, 2010); master
plumber (term to expire Aug. 1, 2010), person experienced in fire
prevention (term to expire Aug. 1, 2008). The commission periodically
reviews and makes recommendations relating to building construction
codes. Monthly meetings are held the fourth Monday at 4:30 p.m.
●	The Convention and Visitors Advisory Board has five vacancies
with terms to expire Sept. 30, 2009. Two members must be owners or
operators of a hotel or motel within the city limits. All shall have
demonstrated by past activities an interest in the convention and
tourism business. The board shall advise the city on the use of funds
created by the hotel and motel tax. Monthly meetings are held the last
Monday at 12 p.m. 
●	The Board of Electrical Examiners has one vacancy with the term
to expire Aug. 1, 2010. The member must be a registered professional
engineer. The board is empowered to give examinations for
electricians’ licenses and certificates. Meetings are held on
call.
●	The Board of Health has one vacancy with the term to expire Aug.
31, 2010.  The member must be a veterinarian and a registered, qualified
voter of the city.  The board acts in an advisory capacity to the
Council on matters pertaining to public health and animal control.
Monthly meetings are held the second Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
●	The Health Insurance Appeals Board has one vacancy with the term
to expire Feb. 16, 2010. The member must have substantive professional
experience in benefits administration for a large organization. The
board hears appeals from the decisions of the administrator. Monthly
meetings are held on call.
●	The Internet Citizens Advisory Group has two vacancies with
terms to expire Oct. 15, 2010. Members assess the user-friendliness and
effectiveness of the city’s Internet activities. The group makes
recommendations to staff and Council on resource priority for the
city’s effective utilization of the Internet. Meetings are held
every other month on the third Wednesday at 5 p.m.
●	The Board of Mechanical Examiners has one vacancy with the term
to expire June 17, 2009. The member shall be a registered professional
engineer and must be a resident of the city of Columbia. The board is
empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation, air
conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Monthly
meetings are held the second Tuesday at 5 p.m.
●	The New Century Fund Board has three vacancies with terms to
expire Sept. 30, 2010. All should have an interest in the future of the
city of Columbia and the funding needs required to achieve future
success. All must be current residents and qualified electors of the
city of Columbia. The New Century Fund, Inc. is a Missouri
not-for-profit corporation. Meetings are held on call.
●	The Personnel Advisory Board has two vacancies with terms to
expire Sept. 30, 2010. Members shall have significant, substantive
knowledge of social, legislative, political and administrative factors
affecting personnel management and employee relations. All must be
residents and registered qualified voters of the city. In addition,
members must not hold a lucrative position in city government or any
other lucrative public office during their terms. The board advises the
Council on its findings, opinions, various conclusions and
recommendations on the status of the personnel system. Meetings are held
on call.
