Third annual Stream Extravaganza is September 6
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Public Works Department announces
the third annual Stream Extravaganza on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 6-8 p.m.
The event will take place at Flat Branch Park at Fourth and Broadway,
and is a free family event for all ages. Stream Extravaganza is an
opportunity to learn about watersheds, storm water and streams that run
through Columbia and the wildlife that depends on those streams.
Environmentally friendly lawn care, rain gardens and rain barrels will
also be highlighted.
There are plenty of activities for the entire family with an
evening of fun, frogs, fishing poles, birds, nature tattoos, learning
and magic for all ages. “Dee Bee the Conservation Clown” will create
aquatic balloon critters and make flowers magically appear. Cast a
fishing line, pick up a crawdad, learn about water quality and build
your own boat out of nature’s materials, then send it floating down
Flat Branch. Touch wildlife pelts, make bird feeders and identify
“Tattletale Bugs” that indicate the health of a stream.
The program is sponsored by the city of Columbia Public Works
and Boone County Public Works. For more information about Stream
Extravaganza, visit the Columbia Public Works Web site at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com or call Mona Menezes at (573) 874-7250.
