Snow Removal Operations Update
COLUMBIA, MO (December 6, 2007 3:45pm) - The City of Columbia Public
Works Department announces snow removal operations are continuing this
afternoon. We will be working throughout the evening to make sure
streets are safe and passable.
A full crew is currently working on first and secondary priority
streets as well as critical areas. City crews will work throughout the
evening on these routes if necessary. Once first priority, critical and
second priority streets are passable or clear, we move into the
residential areas if we receive more than 4” of snow.
In order to run our snow plowing operations as efficiently as possible,
we ask citizens to keep parked cars off streets as often as possible.
Parked cars are an obstacle to clearing the street well, and also pose a
hazard that plows must maneuver around. Streets will be plowed more
thoroughly if there are fewer cars parked on the street. Many of the
streets in the Greektown area near Campus are narrower streets and
therefore do not have much room for city snow plows to maneuver through.
Therefore, we ask students to not park on the streets if there is other
off-street parking available. This will avoid delays in getting streets
cleared off in a timely manner.
If citizens scoop snow from their driveways, we ask them to keep the
snow to the right side of their driveway (as you are facing the street).
This will help to avoid having the driveway plowed back shut with snow
when the snow plows come down the street.
The snow operations will maintain contact with the Joint Communications
office to handle all emergency situations. We appreciate everyone’s
patience and cooperation during the city’s clean-up efforts. The
city’s snow removal map is available online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com
for citizens to view the priority status.
