Federal funds earmarked for Stadium

COLUMBIA, MO (December 20, 2007) - City officials have learned that
Columbia will receive $249,000 in federal funds as part of the omnibus
spending package approved by Congress this week. According to
Congressman Kenny Hulshof (Missouri - 9th District) the money is
designated for project design services and right-of-way acquisition
associated with the planned extension of Stadium Boulevard east from
Highway 63 to Interstate 70.

Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman said that the City appreciates the
efforts of Congressman Hulshof and his staff in securing the funds.
“This project is extremely important to help link and improve
access to the University of Missouri from central Columbia and
Interstate 70. The roadway is key to development locally and throughout
the region,” Hindman said.

The eastward extension of Stadium, also known as Missouri Highway 740,
has been part of the City’s transportation plans since 1970 and is a
local priority for federal funding. Hulshof secured $2.5 million for the
project in 2005 through the Transportation Equity Act.

The City, Boone County and the Missouri Department of Transportation
have started seeking public comment through an environmental review
process. To learn more about, visit http://www.eastcolumbiaeis.com/ .
