Columbia/Boone County WIC Program contract renewed for 2007

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia/Boone County Health Department
(CBCHD) has announced that a contract to continue to provide the Special
Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
services for the federal fiscal year 2006 has been signed with the
Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Under the terms of
the contract, the CBCHD will be able to serve 2,070 persons eligible for
the WIC program every month.
The WIC program provides, at no cost to qualified participants,
nutrition information and checks redeemable for nutritious supplemental
foods. Eligible persons are those who meet WIC income guidelines and are
determined to be at nutritional risk. The WIC program works to educate
mothers on how to make nutritious food choices every day for themselves
and their children.
In 2006, the Columbia/Boone County WIC Program provided services
to 2,044 eligible prenatal/postpartum women, infants and children up to
age five on average each month.
WIC services are available in Boone County at three locations.
In Columbia, WIC sites are located at the Health Department and at the
J.W. “Blind Boone” Center. WIC services are also available at the
Hallsville United Methodist Church.
Persons interested in applying for services or in need of more
information can contact the Columbia/Boone County WIC Program at
573-874-7384. Standards for participation in the WIC program are the
same for everyone regardless of race, color, national origin, age,
disability or sex.
