Power Supply Task Force members needed
(Columbia, MO) -- Decisions on the future power supply for
Columbia are being studied and the city of Columbia is seeking citizen
input. Columbia Water and Light will hire a consultant to perform an
integrated resource plan (IRP). The members of the task force will work
with the Water and Light Advisory Board to solicit public input and
review the findings of the IRP. The Task Force will advise the City
Council on meeting Columbia’s future electric needs.
Four citizens of Columbia who are electric utility customers or
affiliated with the utility through an electric business account are
being sought for the Power Supply Task Force. The members must be
qualified voters. At a minimum, members must attend monthly meetings.
Applications for the Power Supply Task Force may be obtained at the City
Clerk’s Office, 701 E. Broadway, or can be found on the city’s Web
site: www.GoColumbiaMo.com/Council/Commissions. Applications must be in
the City Clerk’s Office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on
Friday, Aug. 3, 2007.
An Integrated Resource Plan is a comprehensive approach to
studying power supply options. The engineering consulting firm that is
hired will review and update the electric load forecast and previous
power supply studies. When evaluating new options the firm will take
into consideration the environmental impact, transmission constraints,
renewable requirements and the fuel supply. Current utility programs to
encourage efficiency will also be reviewed and new opportunities will be
explored. The last IRP was completed in 1992.
It is expected to take 18 weeks to complete the Integrated
Resource Plan. A consultant is expected to be hired by the City Council
in August to complete the study. The first phase will be the preparation
of the report and then public input will be sought on the different
options.
