Update - Creative Eye Studio Fire; official origin and cause; damage
estimate
COLUMBIA, MO (July 20, 2007) - An attic fire broke out at 2201 Old
Highway 63 South (Creative Eye Photography and Studios) when the
business was struck by lightning. Shortly before 3 p.m., Carl Neitzert
(an employee) was escorting a patron to a vehicle when he noticed smoke
coming from the gable on the southwest corner of the business. He
returned to the business where the owners called 9-1-1.
Fire investigators, through their investigation and interviews last
night, have determined that the fire began in the attic on the east side
of the building and the probable cause was a lightning strike.
Damage estimates to the building and contents is hard to gauge this
early because of the unique business involving a large quantity of
photographic equipment, supplies and photographs. Fire investigators
have placed a preliminary estimate of $150,000 to the structure. The
estimate to contents is unknown.
