Fire at 509 Banks Avenue destroys home
COLUMBIA, MO (July 21, 2007) - On Saturday, July 21, at 6:40 a.m. the
Columbia Fire Department responded to a house fire at 509 Banks Ave.
Fire crews arrived on the scene and the found the attached garage and
attic heavily involved in fire. The house was quickly searched and no
one was found inside. Firefighters mounted an interior attack and also
sprayed water from above using an aerial apparatus to control the
blaze.
Three vehicles were parked in the driveway near the house and all were
damaged by the fire. The radiant heat from the fire was so intense that
it also damaged the exterior siding on a neighbor's home.
The occupants of 509 Banks Ave. had left their home early this morning
for a family trip. After the fire was reported, family members contacted
the occupants and they returned to find their home heavily damaged by
fire.
