C.A.R.E. Gallery planning exhibit

COLUMBIA, MO (July 23, 2007) - The city’s C.A.R.E. Gallery trainees
will display their work in an end of summer art exhibit at the P.S.
Gallery (812 E. Broadway) July 31-Aug. 28. As the art related job site
for the city’s C.A.R.E. Program, the gallery hires up to 17 trainees
to work 20 hours per week for eight weeks at the C.A.R.E. Gallery’s
art studio. The 14-18 year old youth traditionally have the opportunity
to display their work at the end of the program.

This year, the exhibit will premier with an opening reception at P.S.
Gallery from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 2. The daily hours of the gallery
are: Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 12-5 p.m.

The youth have spent the summer working with visiting artists to create
handmade pens, decoupage boxes, paintings, drawings, pressed flower
compositions and much more. Proceeds from this exhibit go to fund future
C.A.R.E. Gallery art projects.

The C.A.R.E. Gallery is a program of the city of Columbia Parks and
Recreation Department with financial assistance from the city’s Office
of Cultural Affairs, the Missouri Arts Council and the National
Endowment for the Arts.

The C.A.R.E. Program (Career Awareness Related Experience) provides
at-risk youth, ages 14-18, living in Columbia and/or attending Columbia
Public schools with employment and educational opportunities.
