Afternoon extrication crash injures two

COLUMBIA, MO (June 18, 2007) - The Columbia Fire Department responded
to a report of a extrication crash in the 4500 block of Paris Road
(State Route B) at 5:16 p.m. on Monday, June 18. Fire units arrived to
find two vehicles with very heavy damage in the southbound lanes of
Paris Road just south of the Frito Lay/Quaker Oats plant.

Firefighters and paramedics treated two males on the scene; both were
drivers of the vehicles. One vehicle was a late model pickup and the
other a mid-sized passenger vehicle.

The driver of the pickup was transported to University Hospitals and
Clinics as a Class Two Trauma patient meaning that because of the nature
of the crash, he could possibly have life-threatening injuries. The
driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to University Hospitals and
Clinics as Class One Trauma meaning the injuries sustained in the crash
were considered life-threatening.

Traffic on Paris Road was reduced to one lane for a couple of hours
causing a lengthy traffic backup.
