City hosts Natural Resource Inventory Open House
COLUMBIA, MO (June 25, 2007) - 

When: Thursday, June 28, from 5 -7 p.m.
Staff presentation starts at 6 p.m.
Where: Activity and Recreation Center, 1701 W. Ash Street
What: Open house to present and solicit ideas for the Natural Resource
Inventory (NRI) project

Background:
● Last March the City Council approved funds to begin work on a
Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) for the Columbia metropolitan area. 
● The NRI project will use digital high-resolution color aerial
photography to map vegetation, land cover and forested areas in and
around Columbia. 
● This is the first step in documenting and monitoring the full range
of Columbia’s natural resources.
● The final products from the NRI will be coordinated sets of
computer databases and GIS map layers that are compatible with the tools
used for policy analysis, planning and for engineering purposes such as:

o Tree cover by species;
o Vegetation map with associations and species;
o Slope/vegetative cover data;
o Updated impervious surface data; and
o Identification of stream banks and stream buffers.
