Boone County flood update: conditions stable, county has new road
closure resource
COLUMBIA, MO (May 10, 2007) - Member agencies and governments
participating in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) report stable
conditions throughout Boone County, as of 10 a.m. today. The EOC is
running on a stand-by basis for the next 12 - 36 hours. It will resume
full operation, if warranted by cresting conditions, later this week.
Agency and government officials will continue their daily conferences.
Please continue to spread this word: There is no need for volunteers or
donations of food and water at this time. If conditions change, a new
call will go out.
Road Closures: New Resource at http://www.showmeboone.com/
The Boone County homepage contains a prominent link to a list of road
closures, with maps. The site will be continually updated by the
Columbia/Boone County Emergency Operations Center, Joint Information
Center, as conditions change.
Site Status Reports
● Rocheport: Boone County Fire Protection District personnel and
volunteers completed work on the Katy Trail yesterday and closed
operations at 9 p.m.
● Huntsdale: Levies there will “hold” up to a 35-foot rise.
Culverts were filled to prevent leakage from the levee, and a pump is
on-site.
● McBaine: All or most of the residents have voluntarily evacuated
for their own safety. The City of Columbia’s water treatment plant is
not in danger. The city’s nearby wetland sewage treatment facility is
functioning normally.
● Hartsburg: River debris blocked a “flapper valve” on a culvert,
causing water to back up into town. The debris was removed, the area
pumped and the water contained. Southern Boone County Fire Protection
District personnel will monitor the culverts and continue to watch weak
spots in levies and are prepared to sandbag, where needed.
● Wilton: Southern Boone County Fire District personnel are prepared
to contain Glascock Branch Creek, which has started to back up in town.
Wilton has a 36-foot road base that acts as a protective levee to
protect the town. Predicted crests are well below that level, but field
personnel are alert to any changes.
